Description

FiltaBac Cream is an excellent antibacterial skin protection for use on dogs, exotic animals and horses.

It covers wounds like a second skin, providing a barrier which simulates the properties of undamaged skin.

WARNING: Whilst FiltaBac may be used on cats, excessive application can result in toxicity from ingestion of the quaternary compounds. Some albino animals or areas of white (non-pigmented) skin can show allergic reaction to the same compounds. It is advisable to use a small amount on a test area to look for sensitivity and irritation. If this occurs then wash the product off thoroughly and the reaction should subside within 12 hours. (See quotes from Aniwell website below).

Use of FiltaBac:

  • Wounds - Maintain thick layer. Protective layer whilst healing. Re-applying after bathing every 2-3 days.
  • Sunburn - Maintain thin visible layer. Protective layer whilst healing
  • Sunblock - Thin visible layer applied to sun-sensitive areas in the morning and noon
  • Irritated skin - Maintain thin layer. Protective layer whilst healing. Re-applying after bathing every 2-3 days.

Wound Benefits of FiltaBac Cream:

  • allows transpiration of the covered area (the wound breathes but does not dry out)
  • promoting moist wound healing,
  • serous fluid can escape,
  • protective barrier prevents intrusion of external contaminants (including insects)
  • antibacterial properties of the cream protect from colonisation of the wound

"Sensitivity in animals, which are albino or with non-‐pigmented skin types: Cats can be very sensitive to topical applications and in unusual circumstances allergic reactions have been reported with use of the New Zealand and Australian formulation of FiltaBac® on white or near albino cats, white English Bull Terriers, white facial areas of Clydesdale and Appaloosa horses. These reactions have been attributed to the inclusion of quaternary ammonium compounds in the NZ and Australia FiltaBac® formulation."

"Advice for use in white or albino cats and dogs: White or albino cats and dogs with pale head markings, prone to sunburn and skin cancer, require sun protection, mainly on the pink, non-‐pigment skin areas of the ear margins and nose. The extremely sensitive nature of these particular skin areas may react to topical applications. In the case of a reaction remove the FiltaBac® Cream from the area with water and the reaction will subside within 12 hours."

Please follow the packet instructions and contact your Veterinarian if you think your pet may be experiencing side-effects.
